The PIL newsletter is published twice a year (April and October). This is a condensed version in English.

Welcome to PIL!

The PIL Unit is an arena for university-level pedagogical development and interactive learning at the University of Gothenburg.

Pedagogical Ideas Programme

University of Gothenburg has introduced a Pedagogical Ideas Programme, intended for everyone working and studying at the university. The Programme formulates a university-wide pedagogical approach, provides a background and research context for ideas relating to student-centred learning and the significance of the learning environment, and also provides support for our pedagogical development work.

First Excellent Teacher appointed at University of Gothenburg

Anne Farewell is a microbiologist at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology. She is the first person to be appointed Excellent Teacher at the University of Gothenburg.

Conference on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (HKG 2015)

The Gothenburg Conference on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (HKG 2015) takes place on 22 October 2015. The conference invites teachers and teaching staff to discussions, exchange of experiences, and inspiration. The conference language will be Swedish. However, some presentations will be held in English. The last day to register is 17 October.

The spring 2016 PIL courses will open for applications on 5 November. These courses are offered in English:

  • Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 1: Basic Course, 5 hec (HPE101)
  • Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 2: Subject Field Pedagogy, 5 hec (HPE102)
  • Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 3: Applied Analysis, 5 hec (HPE103)
  • Supervision in Postgraduate Programmes, 5 hec (HPE201)

Interactive web course on academic integrity

PIL and the University Library have developed an interactive web course on academic integrity, aimed at both teachers and students. So far, the course is only available in Swedish.

Workshops: Teaching with Adobe Connect

Adobe Connect is a tool for e-meetings. PIL offers workshops on Adobe Connect for teachers. If you want a workshop in English, please contact Svante Eriksson.

PIL offers workshop for teachers on how to make films for educational purposes. If you want a workshop in English, please contact Svante Eriksson.

GUL education

If you or your department need GUL education given in English, please send an e-mail to the GUL support group.

Publishing opportunities

The PIL Unit offers publishing opportunities for anybody at the University who writes about teaching and learning in higher education. We want to support the sharing of interesting analyses of various educational practices around the University and stimulate the collective dialogue about teaching and learning.

Writing a course syllabus

The PIL website includes a resource for those writing course syllabuses. The material provided includes general advice and suggestions as well as information about important rules and guidelines for course syllabuses that can be found in both local regulations and the Higher Education Ordinance. The material is available in English.

The PIL Studio

The PIL studio offers the opportunity for university staff to learn to produce their own teaching material. In the studio you can film and edit lectures, interviews, conversations etc for teaching purposes.
