The PIL newsletter is published twice a year (April and October). This is a condensed version in English.

Welcome to PIL!

The PIL Unit promotes pedagogical development and interactive learning at the University of Gothenburg. 

Apply for our courses on Thursday 17 October

The spring 2020 PIL courses will open for applications on Thursday 17 October, tentatively around 9:00 am. Places are limited and will be assigned on a "first come first served" basis. The courses may quickly be fully booked, so don't wait to apply. If you belong to Sahlgrenska Academy, please note the information below!

These courses are offered in English:

  • Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 1: Basic Course, 5 hec (HPE101)
  • Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 2: Subject Field Pedagogy, 5 hec (HPE102)
  • Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 3: Applied Analysis, 5 hec (HPE103)
  • Supervision in Postgraduate Programmes, 5 hec (HPE201)

NB: Special application form for staff at Sahlgrenska

Do you belong to Sahlgrenska Academy? Then you must use a special application form. The application period has already started. The last day for applications is 13 November. Submitted applications are then ranked by your institution.

Conference on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (HKG 2019)

The Gothenburg Conference on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (HKG 2019) takes place on 24 October. The conference theme: Strategies for active learning.

The conference is open for everybody at the University of Gothenburg with an interest in teaching and learning in higher education.

While the main conference language is Swedish, one keynote speech and five presentations will be in English.

Now you have access to Mentimeter

Mentimeter is a student response tool that offers a way to create interactive presentations as a way to encourage student active learning during lectures. Using Mentimeter during lectures can be a way to observe the student group's understanding of the concepts that the teacher addresses during lectures. Mentimeter can also be used as a complement to course evaluations.

All staff at the University of Gothenburg have access to the tool from autumn 2019.

Welcome to apply for the title Excellent Teacher

Teachers who are university employees may apply for the title Excellent Teacher. Assessment will be based on documented evidence of applicants' reflective practice as teachers.

At Sahlgrenska Academy the next application round takes place from 15 January to 15 March 2020. At the other faculties you can apply anytime.

Workshops: How to make films

PIL offers workshops for teachers on how to make films for educational purposes. If you want a workshop in English, please contact Svante Eriksson.

Web resource: Teachers' Guide

The Teachers' Guide is a web resource for teachers, tutors and supervisors at the University of Gothenburg. Located in the Staff Portal, the guide is a collection of links that leads to governing national rules and local policy documents as well as to university-wide resources and contacts. The guide is available in Swedish and English.
