Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 1 (PIL101) is held as modules in 2023

News: Sep 30, 2022

In 2023, the PIL course Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 1: Basic Course (PIL101) will be held in the form of modules. The module system is a pilot project over two semesters.

On Wednesday 19 October, the PIL unit's spring courses will open for registration. However, the basic course PIL101 is not given as a traditional course. In the spring, it is given in the form of four modules:

  • Introduction to Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
  • Legal Module
  • Microteaching
  • Lesson Plan

The introduction must be taken first, while the other three modules can be taken in any order. Together, these four modules basically contain the same content as the previous PIL101 course. All four are mandatory for the participant to be approved for a certificate.

From the autumn semester 2023, the range of modules will be expanded. Participants will be able to choose modules based on needs and interests. In order to be approved for a certificate, the participant will be required to choose modules according to certain guidelines, so that all learning objectives are completed.

In 2023, PIL101 is offered as modules only, not as a traditional course. The only exception is the Faculty of Science's PIL101 course for doctoral students (NFNF303), which is given as a traditional course in the spring of 2023.

More about the modules

You can find descriptions of the modules on the PIL101 webpage.

As a course participant, you can choose whether you want to take the modules on campus or online. You can take them in English or Swedish. Each module will be offered on four to six occasions during the spring. Time periods and schedules for the various occasions will be published by October 19 at the latest on the PIL101 webpage.

You choose the time periods when you apply for the modules. They will open for applications on October 19.

Other PIL courses

In 2023, only PIL101 is offered in the form of modules. The other PIL courses will be held in the traditional way. In the future, these other courses may also be transformed to modules.

Do you belong to Sahlgrenska?

Those who belong to Sahlgrenska Academy (or the VG region) also apply for the modules from the PIL101 webpage. (For the courses PIL102, PIL103 and PIL201, however, there is a special application form for Sahlgrenska/VGR.)

Autumn 2023

From the autumn of 2023, the range of modules is planned to be expanded, for example with shorter modules about teaching methods and longer modules that provide the opportunity for in-depth collegial exchange about different teaching approaches. Furthermore, the faculties will be able to create their own modules, for example with a focus on subject didactics. For more information, please contact Mattias von Feilitzen.
