A course must always have both a Swedish and English title. Information about the number of credits must be stated in connection with the course title in both Swedish and English. Education cycle, form of study etc are stated under another heading elsewhere in the syllabus. The course title should reflect what the course is about. This means that you should bear in mind that the course title should be formulated so that it reflects the key parts/core of the course. It should be possible to revise details in the course’s content without having to create a new course. It is not possible to make subsequent changes to the course title. However, misspellings, misplaced modifiers and incorrect translation can be corrected.
It should be possible to understand the course title without knowing what subject area or department the course belongs to. The course title should also provide future employers with clear information about what they may expect in terms of the students’ knowledge and skills.
The number of higher education credits that the course covers is to be stated here. The scope of the course expressed in higher education credits is to reflect the work effort expected of the students. The basic rule is that one week’s full-time studies corresponds to 1.5 higher education credits. It is not possible to make subsequent changes to the number of higher educational credits associated with a course.
Only one unique course syllabus and one unique course code may be linked to one and the same course, regardless of whether the course is part of a program and/or given as an independent course at the same time. If a course is to be given both as a regular course and as contract education, two separate course plans with individual course codes are required. It is not possible to make subsequent changes to the course’s LADOK code. The course will be allocated a new course code if significant changes are made. This always applies when changes are made to the title, scope in higher education credits, education cycle and when changing the main field of studies.
This specifies whether it is a first-cycle or second-cycle course. A course can only involve one education cycle. It is not possible to make subsequent changes of the educational cycle. If a change of education cycle is needed, a new course syllabus with a new course code must be confirmed. Expected learning outcomes, course content, teaching and examinations at a second-cycle level are to be characterised by a higher level of independence, complexity, personal responsibility, intellectual maturity and competence than first-cycle courses.
