There are several things to consider when formulating the entry requirements for a course. The way in which entry requirements are formulated depends on the education cycle of the course and the students towards whom the course is directed. The entry requirements are to be those necessary to be able to assimilate the course. Entry requirements are also to be formulated so that only those students possessing the prerequisites to pass the course are eligible for admission. Where possible, entry requirements should be formulated so that they are not based solely on the courses and programmes offered at the University of Gothenburg.
For first-cycle courses directed at new entrants, specific entry requirements are to be expressed as field-entry specific requirements in accordance with Chapter 7, Section 9 of the Higher Education Ordinance. The field-specific entry requirements used can be found in Gubas Kursplan. If the course only requires general entry requirements, this should be stated instead. The entry requirements for first-cycle continuation courses, which are thus directed at students who have previously been in higher education, are specified in the first instance in the form of those courses from which the student must have knowledge. The course code, title and number of higher education credits for the course(s) required must be stated. In cases where a more extensive course comprises an entry requirement but does not have to be fully completed for the student to start the course in question, the proportion of the course that must be completed is to be expressed as a number of higher education credits. If the entry requirement does not relate to a specific course, eligibility is to be stated in the second instance in the form of a certain number of higher education credits within a main field of studies or subject. It is also possible, under Chapter 7, Section 25 of the Higher Education Ordinance, to impose other conditions called for by the course or study programme or of significance to the professional or vocational area for which students are to be prepared.
