Academic integrity in Canvas

In Canvas (the University's learning management system), there are two modules on academic integrity with self-correcting tests that you as a teacher can insert into your courses.

Plagiarism is a complex problem. In the videos in the module Academic Integrity 1, various definitions and common causes of plagiarism are discussed.

In handling plagiarism, we believe that work should primarily be preventive. We view plagiarism as an educational problem. The main focus of prevention is to teach students how to use sources correctly. In the videos in the module Academic Integrity 2, students can learn more about citing sources and reference management.

We hope that the students will be able to turn to their teachers for further support and that the teachers who so wish will use the material as a basis for discussions on issues of plagiarism and education in their courses. The videos may be suitable for use in a flipped classroom setting, i.e. the students view the videos before the course session and  the time in the classroom is used for discussion.

Import the modules into your course in Canvas

The modules Academic Integrity 1 and Academic Integrity 2 can be found in Canvas Commons. You can find Canvas Commons in the Global Navigation Menu when you are logged in to Canvas. The modules are set up so that students gain access to content in stages. To gain access to "Page 2" the students must first have accessed "Page 1". If you make sure to import Academic Integrity 1 first and then Academic Integrity 2, the modules will be set up so that the selfcorrecting test in part 1 has to be passed before part 2 is unlocked. Students can take the tests as many times as needed. You can change the settings so that the content will work well in your course design.
