Assessment and recognition of qualifications in teaching and learning in higher education
Teachers, and supervisors in postgraduate programmes, who have not undergone the university teaching staff training courses can have their qualifications assessed at their faculty. This process is sometimes called validation.
PIL and the Division of Human Resources have worked out a procedure and instructions for assessment and recognition of teaching qualifications with the aims of supporting the work with documentation of qualifications in teaching and learning in higher education at each faculty, each department and at the university administration. The instructions were established in June 2015; at the same time, the procedure was revised.
Since spring 2023, the course PIL101 is offered in the form of modules. For information about validation of modules, see below!

Validation of modules (PIL101)
Since spring 2023, PIL101 is offered in the form of modules. We are working on updating the instructions regarding validation of PIL101. Until the new instructions are in place, the faculty can perform the validation in two ways: either validate the modules against the module descriptions on the PIL101 webpage, or use the old PIL101 syllabus as the modules still cover all learning objectives.
In some cases, the faculty will validate some modules but not all that are needed to achieve the requirements for PIL101; for example, it is common that the Legal Module cannot be validated. In these cases, it is possible for the decision-maker to make a comment about this on the decision form. The person who is validated can then apply for the Legal Module via the PIL Unit. The applicant should send an email to pil@gu.se and attach the decision form to show that the mandatory module Introduction to Teaching and Learning in Higher Education has been validated.
